Hard wood floors are a terrific choice if you can afford them, and if you can spend some time in their maintenance. If your budget doesn't allow for an oak or cherry floor, consider a laminated wood floor instead. It's affordable and easy to maintain. It doesn't show as much water damage as other wood varieties, and it doesn't scratch or chip or dent like wood floors sometimes do in high traffic areas.
An entry level laminated floor will take low to moderate traffic with no problem at all. If you have a high traffic area that you want a wood floor for, consider a thicker core. Laminate floors come with a core thickness of 6 mm to 12 mm. A thicker core will not swell due to excessive moisture, and will not buckle or bend out of shape when walked on. This resistance to moisture makes laminated floors perfect for areas like bathrooms and kitchens, where the potential for water damage is high.
A laminated floor is the right choice if you're looking for wood's desirable looks with the not-so-desirable price tag. Plus they're easy to clean and maintain, saving you more expenses in the long run. We'd like an in-home estimate for solid wood flooring in a chocolate color. |
We have just torn up the carpets at our new house and found beautiful oak floors (red oak, I believe). We plan to tear down a few walls, and also continue the oak floors into another room, and so would need approx. 188 ft2 of newly installed floors, 241 ft2 of refinishing on the original floors, and 19 ft2 of "patchwork" in the footprint of the walls we take down. The original floors are from 1952 and besides a few marks made in marker by a previous owner, are in great shape. We are looking to take down the walls on this weekend, and so would like to have the floors worked on sometime in the following week. Thank you! |
